Well, after a good number of days doing some R&R, I’m back with a new adventure. Although this one also took place here in my home, it has a great story behind it. I read this a while back and it inspired me to take this photo. Here’s the story.
A university professor visited the home of a nineteenth-century zen master named Nan-in. The professor had come to inquire about zen but in the conversation, he spent more time talking than listening. In response, Nan-in began pouring the professor’s tea until it flowed out of the cup and onto the table. “What are you doing!” the professor exclaimed. “Like this cup, you are full of your own ideas,” replied the master. “How can I teach unless you first empty your cup?”
I think this is significant as a lot of people nowadays are always full of their own ideas, but not open to new concepts. I try to approach every situation in life like this; with an empty cup, and ready to learn. The same applies to photography – although I’m well experienced in a variety of situations, I approach every photo shoot with an empty cup. It ensures that I don’t get my mind clouded, and that every photograph is unique.
Anyhoo, here’s the photo. Let me know what you think! Take care all, and Happy New Year!
